Cantabrian designer Rubén Iglesias, Retrain, participated last days 29th and 30th of June in Trashboarding, third event of Trash Investigation Series 2013, which took place once again during Barcelona Design Festival, which put the city as the international design capital for a month.
The event called students and designers to build temporary habitations (Trashboarding) created out of cardboard as main material, counting with the participation of one design school, escola Massana, as well as three professional teams which base their work on recycling materials and objects: German studio Peppermint Products, CartonLAB from Murcia and the Cantabrian Retrain.
Participants tested its creativity in two days held at Betahaus, coworking space located in Gracia district of Barcelona, completing with success the construction on-site from their own particular creative views. Retrain transformed for his project cardboard tubes in a suspended structure with capacity for two people, offering a place to relax.
Finally, the presentation of the projects took place on the night of 2 July during the closing ceremony of the event. The act had a live music performance and was developed in a relaxed atmosphere between both public and creatives.
Trash Investigation Series 2013, which cellebrated in 2013 its third edition, is an event open to the public and allows to following of the construction process, from beginning to end. The aim is to establish a direct connection between the public and designers, and allow them to present their up-cycling working methods and their ways to transform materials and waste.
